How to use Tech Byte POS
Plain answers for running the floor — first sale, wastage, payroll, QR orders, loyalty. Search or pick a topic below.
Getting started
Create your store, pick a plan, and get your team on board.
- 1Sign up at /signup
- 2Enter your restaurant name on onboarding
Shows on receipts and in the sidebar. Change it anytime in Settings.
- 3Pick a plan on /pricing and complete payment
- 4Open the dashboard and start with Menu or POS
- 1Open Dashboard → Users
- 2Click Invite user and enter their email
- 3Choose role: Owner or Staff
- 4They receive an invite email — they sign in and are ready
- 5Optionally link their login to a Staff profile (for attendance)
This lets them punch in/out themselves.
- 1Go to Download on the marketing site (/download)
Pick Windows or Mac and run the installer.
- 2Open Tech Byte POS from Desktop, Start Menu, or Dock
- 3Sign in with your owner or staff email
- 4Optional: pin the window to the taskbar for quick access
- 5Browser alternative: open /pos in Chrome → Install app
Useful if you cannot run the desktop installer.
Dashboard & POS
Dashboard overview and ringing up sales at the counter.
- 1Open POS from Dashboard or sidebar
- 2Tap a category pill to filter the menu
- 3Tap items to add them — the ticket updates live on the right
- 4Open the cart and click Checkout Now
- 5Choose payment method: Cash, UPI, Card, Partial, or Unpaid
- 6Confirm — a receipt prints if your printer is connected
- 1Keep using POS as usual during an outage
- 2Orders save locally until the connection returns
- 3When online again, sync runs automatically
Check Sales after sync to confirm everything landed.
Sales history & Analytics
Review every closed ticket, export data, and track trends over time.
- 1Open Dashboard → Analytics (owner only)
- 2Use the 7 Days / This Month / Last Month preset buttons, or pick a custom range
- 3Scroll through KPI tiles, category chart, and hourly heatmap
- 4Click Export CSV to download the data
- 1Open Dashboard → Cash Register
- 2Set opening cash for today (or let it roll from yesterday if you skip)
- 3Cash sales from POS count toward the day automatically
- 4Log owner withdrawals and top-ups on the same page
- 5Mark expenses as paid from register so they reduce cash in hand
- 6Check Cash in hand at close
Opening + sales − expenses − taken + added.
Inventory, recipes & wastage
Track ingredients, see food cost per dish, log waste, and optionally auto-deduct on sale.
- 1Open Dashboard → Inventory → Add item
- 2Enter name, quantity, and unit (ml, g, kg, pcs, etc.)
- 3Set unit cost if you want food cost on recipes
e.g. ₹120 per kg for coffee beans.
- 4Set low-stock threshold and expiry if needed
- 5Save
- Green — above your low-stock threshold
- Yellow — at or below threshold
- Red — zero quantity
- Grey — past expiry date
- 1Open Dashboard → Recipe
- 2Create recipe, select the menu product, then size/add-ons if needed
- 3Add each ingredient with quantity and unit
- 4Save — costing appears when unit costs are set on inventory
- 5Optional: Settings → turn on auto-deduct inventory on sale
Pro/Enterprise. Without it, recipes are for costing only unless you deduct manually.
- 1Open Dashboard → Wastage
- 2Log wastage — choose item, quantity, unit, reason
- 3Save
Estimated cost shows if the item has a unit cost.
- 4To undo, delete the log entry from the list
Tables, floor layout & QR ordering
Set up your dining floor, run table tabs, and let guests order from their phones.
- 1Open Dashboard → Tables
- 2Click Add table
- 3Enter Name (e.g. 'Table 7'), Seats, and Section (e.g. 'Patio')
- 4Save — a QR code is created immediately
- 5Print the QR from Table Management and place it on the table
- 1Guest scans the QR code printed on their table
- 2The mobile menu opens in their browser (no app required)
- 3They browse categories, tap items to add to cart
- 4Optionally add a note (e.g. 'no onions, lactose free')
- 5They tap Place order — it appears in your Dashboard → Table Orders
- 1Open Dashboard → Table Orders
- 2New orders appear with a 'New' badge — click Mark seen to acknowledge
- 3Click Open in cart to load the order into POS (edit lines, apply discounts)
- 4Click Confirm order to move it to the table ticket
- 5Or click Dismiss (no payment) if the guest left without ordering
Expenses
Log every operating cost so your profit picture stays accurate.
- 1Open Dashboard → Expenses
- 2Click Log expense
- 3Enter Title (e.g. 'Vegetable supply'), Amount, Category, and Date
- 4If you paid from the till, toggle 'Paid from cash register' ON
This automatically deducts the amount from today's Cash Register balance.
- 5Click Add expense — it appears in the history list immediately
Customers & Loyalty points
Automatic customer profiles, visit tracking, and a built-in loyalty programme.
- 1Set earn rate in Dashboard → Settings → Loyalty
- 2At checkout, enter the customer's phone number
- 3Their points balance appears automatically
- 4Toggle 'Use loyalty points' to apply them as a discount
- 5The discount is calculated and shown before you confirm
Staff profiles
Who works here, what they earn, and their usual shift.
- 1Open Dashboard → Staff → Add staff
- 2Fill in name, phone, role, salary
- 3Set shift start/end and monthly offs
- 4Save
- 5Invite them under Users if they need login access
Link the user to this staff profile for punch-in.
Attendance & punch
Daily roster, self punch-in/out, and optional on-site GPS check.
- 1Staff opens Dashboard → Attendance
- 2Punch in on arrival, punch out when leaving
- 3Owner can edit times from the same page if needed
- 1Settings → enable require on-site attendance
- 2Use capture location while standing at the café
- 3Set radius (e.g. 100 m) and save
- 4Staff must allow location in the browser when punching
Not foolproof against GPS spoofing, but stops casual remote punch-ins.
Payroll & payslips
Monthly pay from attendance, advances, and printable slips.
- 1Open Dashboard → Payroll
- 2Select month and staff member
- 3Review prorated base pay from attendance
- 4Adjust bonus/deductions if needed
- 5Save the payroll record
Tasks
Simple shift checklists for your team.
- 1Dashboard → Tasks → Add task
- 2Assign to someone or leave open
- 3Staff complete from their list
Settings & configuration
Receipts, UPI, loyalty rules, Telegram, stock auto-deduct, and geofence.
